"Write Up"

In writing up the results "appropriately for an APA journal" is it okay to follow the outline exactly as given in class or is that plagiarism? I know there is a certain way, so is following exactly as one of the slides in the handout plagiarizing or simply just doing it "the" way? Thanks for your help!!!

Great question!

Here's the key pieces: you want to submit a write up that adheres to APA style, that is clear, and that is well written. You also must submit a write up that is your work (not an editing of my work, with your variables substituted).

To that end, I would strongly recommend that you read all the examples in the slides (there are several in there, including some that we will go over on Tuesday). Read them carefully, understand how they are written, and then put them aside. Write your own write up, and do not consult the examples while you are writing. If necessary, refer back to the examples after you are finished writing to check and see that you included all important information. Don't actually look at the examples while you are writing, though, because that makes not plagiarizing very, very difficult.
