Ok, I double spaced between sentences on my last article review and they're all circled! We're only supposed to single space between sentences??? The examply clearly looks double-spaced..

APA format requires a single space between all sentences. I don't have access to the example article review, but if there are two spaces, I'm sorry for the confusion.

I learned to type with two spaces between sentences, so if there's anyone out there like me, here's a simple way to single space between sentences without driving your automatic typing skills nuts. Type up everything as you usually do, then do a search and replace. Search for ". " and replace with ". " - without the quotation marks, of course.

I'm not sure why, but my sentence with search for and replace with didn't turn out right. You should search for a period followed by two spaces and replace with a period followed by one space (no quotation marks).

As Justin correctly noted, APA format is only one space between sentences (see p. 290 of the Publication Manual). APA's general preference is to reduce keystrokes. Think of it as their attempt at carpal tunnel prevention.

For those like Justin (and me!) who automatically put 2 spaces after the ends of sentences, his suggested remedy above is a wonderful one--and one that has now been applied to the files on Portico.

(Good catch, BTW. Only 14 of the sentences in the article review outline had the two spaces after them!)
