More questions

1. do we need to report R in our write up for number 6? Or just R2 or delta R2?
2. How do we get SPSS to show us the exact result for p...sig?
If we find SEB, etc. values that are .000 or .0002, how do we report them in the table??
3. the * for p values...does it matter if we just hit shift and ** or do we need to make them a superscript...does it matter???
4.I'm lost on what to report in my note for the table for question 7. Do we need to say that height means centered height? Do we need to report the delta R2 if we didn't report them in the table but reported them in our write-up? I was told this was redundancy on my homework #3?

Just so you know i am running these questions by Sung so that everyone receives the same response.

However...some of your questions have been answered before, so reading previous posts may prove helpful.

As soon as he responds i will post those answers here.

Sung said that the following responses to your question are correct:

1. Here you need to realize what you're reporting, there are several steps so you need to make sure to have the proper number of statistics for each without being redundant. You should have only one R statistic for each step and then one R statistic for the overall model. From there you need to decide whether the proper statistic is R2 or delta R2.

2. To get the exact number for p: You click on the number that you want to see the exact value of in the output table in SPSS...
The second part of this can be found in previous answers on the blog

3. This has been asked previously on the blog, that answer still stands. However, many students have been putting spaces between the ** and p in the note...it is clear in the APA manual that when noting the sig values there are no spaces between them: *p = .05, **p = .01, ***p = .001.
(those should be italicized p's but they won't show up here.)

4. This first question was answered below on the blog, but it is worth repeating: you typically explain any transformations (e.g., centering) in-text.
Next...it IS considered redundant if you report ANY statistic both in text and in table (this is specifically discussed in the APA manual).

Im not sure if this is true for everyone, but at least in some cases, there were not spaces between * and p in the note.
(i.e. you stick your cursor between the two, hit backspace and the * disappears, so there was no space) but for some reason Word 2007 has some screwy appearing spacing sometimes and it looks like it is there. Please be careful when grading so we don't lose points due to Word's formatting that we can't do anything about.
