double spacing note

in the APA manual, it says that the note under the tables SHOULD NOT be double spaced-ie, the note should be single spaced. However, many agree that Dr. Kim said that the everything should be double-spaced and we were not marked off for it on our homeworks.

Should we double space the note or single space the note?

When in doubt obey the APA gods. Seriously though, if the APA manual contradicts what the examples show, then go with the APA manual. It is the final authority in grading, even if your TA's / Professor forget some of it's finer points. We apologize for our mistake(s).

This may be another discrepancy: Back in November, a TA posted that Dr. Kim would like us to double space all aspects of our table for an assignment.

Thanks for pointing the discrepancy. Do whatever the APA manual tells you to do and you will be "error-proof", just like bulletproof and waterproof. :)

I get that we should do what the APA manual says, but I can't find anywhere in the 6th edition that says that the note has to be single spaced, just that we can choose to single or double space the entire table. (Section 5.17). Can someone tell me what section that is in? From what I can tell they should be spaced however the rest of the table is.(See http://web.psych.washington.edu/writingcenter/ writingguides/pdf/tables.pdf)
If it is true that notes should be single spaced, are we going to get points taken off for doing it the way we have done it all semester? Especially considering half the class has already submitted their projects before this issue was raised?
